The FORCE is strong with this one

Boy, it's been a busy month! Trisha finally conceded and agreed to let SJ's nursery have a Star Wars theme so we got the furniture ordered and we've been scouring the net for awesome deco for the room. I did have to give up something I wanted though. SJ will not be the proud owner of the most awesome Wampa rug in the world.

Doesn't this kid look happy?

Next we move on to a few first for the Kirkpatrick family. A few weeks ago on a little adventure trip, we stumbled upon the Lovington Fair on our way back to Lubbock. At first, it was just supposed to be a quick trip in to allow Trisha to walk around a little and grab a turkey leg for dinner. But once I found out she had never been to a rodeo, we had to stay! We got to see all of the events and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. On the way out, we picked what had to be the best funnel cake we've ever had the chance to stuff in our mouths while listening to the free concert of Uncle Cracka

And for the other first...just last weekend, Trisha surprised me with a trip to a Cowboys preseason game. We had both been to the new stadium for Tech games but it really is spectacular to see it in all it's glory with 80,000 ans wearing the colors and screaming for the Boys. I think SJ was a caught off guard with all the noise and junk food we were making him experience all at once. Luckily, earlier that day in the hotel, I got to feel him kick for the first time. It's moments like those that make all the craziness that is pregnancy worth it.

Lastly, we once again bring to the point of what this blog is truly made for. A constant reminder (although I do admit I've slacked in that department) that this is the Kirkpatrick Adventure. Trisha and I were called crazy several times when we let people know we were remodeling the house 2 months before the wedding. What better way to move into the third trimester of our firstborn than to buy up some mountain land and build a cabin! That's right, by this time next week we'll be the proud owners of our own little slice of heaven nestled in the Sacramento mountains. Ted (Trisha's dad) and I will be busy little beavers over the next 6 weeks trying to at least get its weathertight shell done by mid-October. Neither of us have ever taken on such a project but we're pretty confident with ourselves in that we can get it done.

I'll definitely be updating more with the progress

It's a BOY!

Ever since we told people we were pregnant, it's felt like a battle with the whole boy/girl thing. It's no secret that every man wants a first boy son. While still practiced in countries today, the birth right goes back to days of the bible.

And there's definitely no secret that I wanted a boy. It's always been my dream to have a junior and it seems the more I wanted the baby to be a boy...the more others wanted it to be a girl. So when we popped into the doctors office to get a sonogram last week, the tech was confused because we weren't scheduled for another sonogram for another month. I think I shocked her even more with the first words out of mouth, telling her, "number one goal for the day, find me a wiener!"

Didn't take long. This was the first pic she took with about ten seconds of searching.

Sweet justice! I was a proud dad to announce to the world and squash the debate... finally.

On another note, aren't these just great for a baby announcement?

Is an $800 stroller in our future?

Found this entertaining little pic after Trisha and I realized we probably didn't need to spend $800 on a super stroller that has running lights and charges my iPhone.

So where can I get a tophat like that?

Halftime

Well, here we are at the first of July and it seems that half of 2012 is over. It's been an eventful year so far:

  1. We finished remodeling the house
  2. We got married
  3. I became the Impregnator
But as we step into the second half of the year, Trisha also moves into the second trimester. My BabyBump ap tells me that Trisha will finally get some relief from morning sickness and have more energy. That's a welcome change. BabyK is growing fast to the size of a lemon this week. We had our second set of sonograms done last week and it was pretty awesome seeing the little one squirm and turn as the tech patiently tried to get us some good pics.

My favorite is this one where he seems to be chillin with his arms behind his head and his legs crossed. Haha

Poor kid, looks like he has my forehead. I just needed the crotch shot though. It's no secret that I want a boy so I was probably very annoying to the tech to get the right angle. She said if she had to guess, it looked good for me.

What to expect when you're expecting

Was a good start to the summer. Got a few hours in the pool with the parentals, then a delicious dinner at Whataburger topped off by going and seeing a movie. I hadn't seen any previews on tv about the movie but Trisha and I saw one at the drive-in a few weeks ago and knew we were going to have to see it.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it 23%. My verdict... I liked it. Maybe I'm a little biased right now because I felt every joke or situation was pointing straight at me. And while going into it hoping that I would learn the all-mighty secret to figure out how to deal with an overly hormonal (yet, exceptionally beautiful) pregnant wife, I only realized that I'm not the only one in this world dealing with such issues. The next 7 months (according to the movie) are going to be filled with hurdles beyond my wildest nightmares and my job is to be....drumroll please....supportive. Luckily, I have a very patient wife but I'm learning.

And then there is the light at the end of the tunnel. Not just for my unborn child pushing its head out of Trisha and getting blinded by the delivery room lights, but to know that we went through this together. We might not be perfect, but doing the best we can to raise our child will be perfectly fine.

T-minus 227 more days!

Things get REAL

So its been 22 days since we found out the big news.  Since then, we've experienced the excitement of sharing the news with family and friends, started to look at all the awesome stuff you can get for your baby, and joked about how awesome Sean Jr's Star Wars nursery is going to look.

But it hasn't really seemed like the whole adventure is real....until this afternoon.

Trish called me and let me know that she was going to have her first ultrasound this afternoon.  Well, I wasn't expecting this for another 2 weeks but of course I changed my day's plans to be able to share in the moment.  The nurse had told her that she needed to have a full bladder or the ultrasound wouldn't be able to done so Trish decided to chug a Rt 44 cup of ice water from Sonic.  And as we sat there in the waiting room ready to go back, and Trish griping about how she had to go so bad, it still didn't feel out of the norm.  We go called back and as we entered the little dark room with the bed and the machine, it hit me....I'm about to see the life that I helped make.

So let me present Baby K's first picture:

Only the size of a grain of rice but I could see the little hearbeat.  The tech said 142 beats per minute and along with the dates we gave her, put a date of January 8th as the due date.

The BIG Announcement

Do you know how hard it is to keep something this big a secret?

I know a lot of couples wait 8,10, even 12 weeks before they spill the beans to family and friends...but I don't think those kinds of couples see both sides of their families and friends several times a week. Between prying mothers discussing cycles and confused friends wondering why Trish couldn't eat the fetta on her Fuzzys taco...it was just too hard. We had to announce it to the fam last Thursday but still decided to release the big news at our Hat Night party on Cinco de Mayo. Most of our nearest and dearest made it to the party and indulged me with wearing their hats.

And when the big moment came, I forgot everything I wanted to say and just blurted out that we were pregnant. Tears were shed and high fives were given! And we are just so happy to that we don't have to keep this little secret to ourselves. If anything else for the fact....now we can start pinning fun stuff on Pinterest!
